BACKSTAGE BEAUTY: Jason Wu S/S 13

It's worth noting that Jason Wu's collection for Spring/Summer 2013 got some serious attention after hitting the runway with its contrasted graphics. If you're as much of a beauty devotee as I suspect you are; you would have already noticed the gorgeously glowing makeup that completed the models looks. The finished look was created by MAC's professional makeup artist Diane Kendal.

Her inspiration? With Helmut Newton as her muse she created a sexy, strong woman with a bold mouth and brows: Three-dimensional cherry red lips and a sculpted pout not even Scarlett Johansson would be able to compete against, along with softly shimmered, sultry eyes resulting in a wearable golden gaz.

For the Face:
Kendal blended MAC's Taupe Shape Powder Blush* (Taupe Sculpting Powder) under the models cheekbones to even out skintone and contour. She then applied a subtle layer of Poised Powder Blush* onto cheeks to strengthen the look and brighten the face. The key is in the blending so carefully build up the colour as you can always add to it later - definitely preferred to removing and starting over. Lastly, she used the Silver Dusk Iridescent Loose powder: Gently sweep in one motion above cheekbones to highlight.

Eyes: Get the Golden Gaze
Starting off, Kendal blended the same Taupe Powder as for the face into the crease, to further sculpt around the eye area (Tips: This taupe shade is great for bringing out any natural eye colour and make it pop, without having to decide between different shadow colours). She then continued by lightly dusting a golden shimmer (Golden Lemon Pigment) over eyelids to highlight, sweeping it up to the brow. To define and elongate the eyes, use M·A·C PRO Black Creme Liner thinly and apply through the upper lash line. Perfect the black line further by intensifying, without creating thickness, using Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash. The strong brows are a key feature in this look so define and sculpt them using Dirty Blond and/or Deep Dark Brunette Brow Fluidline*. (Tips: It can be tempting to arching the brows but the look requires them to be more 'square' - concentrate on filling them in across instead). Don't forget to highlight underneath brows with the same Silver Dusk Iridescent Loose powder used on the cheekbones.

Lips: Sculpted and Bold with Beautiful Dimension
Create a coloured base for the lips by defining and contouring them using Lip Pencils. A lip pencil in the colour Cherry was applied all over the lips. Bring out the shape by lining them in the pencil Vino to attain the perfect depth in your pout. Continue by blending Lady At Play and Lush Life Mineralize Rich Lipsticks* onto the lips. Gently pat M·A·C PRO Process Magenta Lipmix in the centre. Lastly, set the lip with MAC's Pigment in Neo-Orange. To get the gorgeous depth of colours think - gradient with a very bright, pink centre,

You may love or hate this look but there's no escaping that it's not just a strong, powerful and feminine look - It is also easily adaptable for both day and night.
