Dior Summer 2011

We all know that the espadrille is a massive trend for this summer; they’re all over the catwalk and the high street, and celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston spotted sporting them in the warm weather. It’s easy to see why they’ve become so popular- they’re comfortable, lightweight and easy to throw on for a walk in the park. The one problem with summer’s go-to flat is, well, it’s not very glamorous.

If you do want to feel a little bit more dressed up (and let’s face it, add to your high heel collection), but aren’t quite ready to forsake the woven footwear that accompanies this season’s seventies vibe; we may have found the answer. While Louboutin has offered us some very stylish flat espadrilles, Dior has given us exactly what us platform-heel addicts needed- gorgeous summery heels that sport the espadrille’s woven rope sole. Several of the designs even feature heels that appear to have been made from wicker and rope to carry the style all the way across the shoes. Dior’s new heels take us on a seventies style safari with animal prints in vividly bright colours; and even a pair adorned with multi-coloured feathers if you’re feeling a little bit more daring. If you prefer your shoes with a little more colour-blocking however, the collection has your tootsies well and truly covered, with beautiful shoe boots in navy blue and nude tones. Another particularly nice feature of the collection is bright-coloured ribbons that wrap around the calves and accentuate your ankles, perfect for wear with this season’s chinos or a pair of calf length harem pants.
